Komodo open trip as a solo traveler: how to ask, arrive and pack

A solo traveler on NK Jaya 1 or NK Jaya 2 starts with one message. Each cabin has a queen bed for 1 to 2 guests, and every price says Min 2 Pax. Tell us your date and we confirm the solo option in writing before any deposit. Superior starts at IDR 4,350,000 (≈ USD 267) per person.
Read the price card as a solo traveler
The price card is simple: a cabin type, a bed, a bathroom, a price per person and the words Min 2 Pax, which means each cabin is sold for at least two guests. Every cabin on both boats holds a queen bed for 1 to 2.
Solo is welcome. Tell us your date, and we confirm the solo option in writing before any deposit, with your own price for one. The per-person fares are IDR 4,350,000 (≈ USD 267) for Superior and IDR 5,350,000 (≈ USD 328) for Full Ocean on both boats.
Ask these three things first
Send three questions in one message, before you plan flights.
- Can one person book this date, and what's the total?
- What's the cabin arrangement for one?
- Where do we meet, and what does the fare cover on that date?
The open trip is a shared boat: you share the deck and the table, and every cabin has its own bathroom. Keep the written reply, and show it to your travel insurer and to whoever worries about you at home.
Landing alone: pickup, safety list, night one
Land the day before. Pickup from your hotel or the airport is free, and your open-trip pickup time comes with the booking.
Both boats list a life raft, life jackets, a ring buoy, a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit, with AIS, radar and two radios. Tell one person at home the boat, the dates and our WhatsApp number.
The first evening is yours. Eat early, charge your phone, pack the dry bag and sleep.
Kit check for one
The official bring list: trekking sandals or shoes, a backpack, emergency cash, personal medicines, sunblock and sunglasses.
Add what a snorkel day asks for.
- Your own mask, if you own one that fits.
- Reef-safe sunscreen and a rash guard.
- A dry bag for the phone and the passport.
- A power bank for the long days on deck.
Pack soft and small. A cabin has a queen bed, and a hard suitcase has nowhere to go, so leave the big bag at your hotel.
If your date is full
If a date doesn't work for one person, you hear that before you pay, with options. Ask for another date, since each sailing is set on its own, or for the other NK Jaya on the same dates. A friend who joins turns the cabin into a straight two-person booking.

What should a solo traveler put in the first message?
Four lines: the boat, the cabin type, the month, and the words I travel alone. Add your flight times if you have them, and the three questions above. We answer with the open dates and what a single booking costs, and we confirm the meeting point with each date.
Should I book flights before you answer the solo question?
No. Keep flights open until the date, the cabin and the total price for one person are confirmed in writing. Land the day before, and book the flight home for the afternoon of the last day. A free change costs less than a missed boat.
Can one person take the whole boat?
Yes, at the boat price. A charter sells the whole boat for 1 to 10 guests (1 to 20 on a full day), from IDR 37,000,000 (≈ USD 2,270) for a full day on NK Jaya 2 and IDR 39,000,000 (≈ USD 2,393) on NK Jaya 1. The price doesn't fall for one guest. It's the right tool for a group, not for one traveler.
Who should I tell at home about the trip?
One person, with the boat name, the dates, our WhatsApp number and a copy of the written confirmation. Both boats list a life raft, life jackets, a ring buoy, a fire extinguisher, a first aid kit and two radios. Share that list too.
How much cash should a solo traveler carry?
The official bring list says emergency cash, but there's no set amount. Park tickets are bought online and never paid in cash on the boat. Carry enough for tips and small purchases on land, and keep it in a dry bag.
