NK Jaya 1 or NK Jaya 2 for an open trip or a small charter: my deck-by-deck check

I'm Jewel, the boat inspector at PT Komodo Explorer Indonesia (KEXI). NK Jaya 1 and NK Jaya 2 are both boats KEXI books, and one question about them comes up more than any other: which one?

This note answers it deck by deck. The numbers come from each boat's 2026 specifications and the two open-trip price cards from February 2026. The details come from our photos of both boats, and when I write "in our photos", a picture shows it.

Two boats, kept apart. A detail shown for one boat is never lent to the other, even where the two look alike.

The specifications list 7 cabins for 14 guests. Each one has a queen bed for 1 to 2 people, air conditioning and a private ensuite bathroom. There is no extra bed on the price list for NK Jaya 1, so pairs are the unit here.

Lower deck: three Superior cabins. In our photos these rooms have round portholes with yellow rims and cream curtains, teak plank walls and a split air conditioner. One has a white heart-shaped headboard. They're the lowest fare on the boat.

Main deck: four Full Ocean cabins. Our photos show a row of four large windows running along the bed, with the sea right outside. Four rooms like that is this boat's strongest card.

Grab this cabin if light matters: a Full Ocean. If the fare matters more, a Superior.

NK Jaya 2 has 6 cabins for 12 to 13 guests, each with air conditioning and a private bathroom, according to its specifications. It's the only one of the pair with cabins on three decks.

Lower deck: three Superior cabins, with queen beds. In our photos they have portholes, teak walls, a ceiling painted lime green and macrame hangings above the bed. The bathrooms have white plank walls and a hand shower on a rail.

Main deck: two Full Ocean cabins. Both show a bank of big side windows next to the bed. Their bathrooms have a window too, and a pebble-stripe floor.

Upper deck: the Master Ocean, a queen bed plus an extra bed for 2 to 3 guests. Our photos show windows on several walls, gray curtains, a plank floor and a short set of steps by the door.

Grab this cabin if you're three friends who want one room. Nothing on NK Jaya 1 sleeps three.

Both specifications list a jacuzzi, a sundeck with lazy chairs, bean bags, a Bluetooth sound system, a fridge and a water dispenser. Where those things sit is different. The photos make that clear.

NK Jaya 1

In our photos the jacuzzi is built into the white upper deck, with the mast and rigging just ahead of it. Elsewhere on the upper deck stands a curved wooden counter with four stools and a pair of loudspeakers. Indoors, a long teak dining table runs between yellow-cushioned benches and slatted chairs, with windows on both sides. Up front there's a water dispenser and a life ring, and the bowsprit ends in a railed platform. The specifications sum the boat's spaces up as a "Large Outdoor and Indoor area".

NK Jaya 2

Here the jacuzzi is round, in a teak surround, right at the bow. Behind it sits a lounge under a yellow awning: cushioned stools, a checkered table, life jackets hung on the rails. On the top deck, bean bags lie under a blue shade net. The specifications list an indoor dining room, and our photos show a live-edge wooden table, mustard bench cushions and an air conditioner.

Short version. NK Jaya 2's deck lounge is shaded in our photos, while the space around NK Jaya 1's jacuzzi is open to the sky.

On the open trip, the February 2026 price cards give both boats the same price card. Superior is IDR 4,350,000 (≈ USD 267) per person and Full Ocean is IDR 5,350,000 (≈ USD 328). Every line says "Min 2 Pax". NK Jaya 2 adds the Master Ocean at IDR 6,050,000 (≈ USD 371) per person, and a third guest on the extra bed pays IDR 3,850,000 (≈ USD 236).

• Two friends on the lowest fare: a Superior on either boat. Same price, same lower deck. Take whichever boat has your date.
• Two people who want big windows: NK Jaya 1. It has 4 Full Ocean cabins to NK Jaya 2's 2, so there's more room to find one free.
• Three friends sharing: the Master Ocean on NK Jaya 2.
• Eight friends who want big-window rooms together: NK Jaya 1's four Full Ocean cabins hold exactly eight.

A small private charter flips the order. The whole-boat price covers 1 to 10 guests. For 3 days 2 nights that's IDR 56,000,000 (≈ USD 3,436) on NK Jaya 1 and IDR 51,000,000 (≈ USD 3,129) on NK Jaya 2. Past 10 guests, each extra person pays IDR 2,000,000 (≈ USD 123) on that route, up to 14 overnight on NK Jaya 1 and 12 to 13 on NK Jaya 2.

In fairness to NK Jaya 2: if you're 10 or fewer, NK Jaya 1's higher rate pays for cabins you may leave empty. NK Jaya 2 is the better buy for that group, unless the Full Ocean windows are the whole point.

The basic split holds. NK Jaya 1 is the boat of windows, with four bright cabins on the main deck. NK Jaya 2 is the boat for three in one room, and the cheaper whole boat for a small group.
