Kelor Island hill walk: the first stop out of Labuan Bajo
Updated 20 October 2026
Kelor is a small hilly islet, a 50 to 70 minute sail from Labuan Bajo. A steep, dry path climbs 15 to 30 minutes to a view over the bay. It opens day 1 on the 2 days and 3 days NK Jaya routes and day 4 on the 4 days route.
A short hill near the harbor
Kelor is the first real stop out of Labuan Bajo. The sail takes 50 to 70 minutes. On the 2 days 1 night and 3 days 2 nights routes it's stop 1, a trek, followed by lunch.
The climb takes 15 to 30 minutes. It is graded moderate. The path is steep and dry, and sturdy shoes help. At the top the view runs over the bay and the boats at anchor.
- Kelor, first stop on day 1. Short steep hill, view over the bay.
Start early on day 1 if you can. The path is dry and open, and the sun is stronger at midday. There's no fixed clock time for the stop, so we confirm the plan when you book.

What it is not: short steep hill, not a long trek · not a dragon site · often the last stop of a trip, so do not expect to have energy left for much more
What Kelor is not
Kelor is not a dragon site, and it is not a long trek. It is a short climb that warms the legs for the bigger walks at Padar and Komodo Island.
On the 4 days 3 nights route it appears at the other end of the trip: stop 12, the first stop of day 4, with breakfast. By then your legs know the routine.
Kelor is a trek on our routes and nothing else. It's a walking stop on the plan, and the swims come next at Manjarite.
There is a good reason for that. A short hill early in the trip tells you who walks fast and who walks slow, before Padar asks harder questions.

Kit for the hill
Wear shoes with grip. Carry water. A hat and sunblock help because the path is open. Take a phone for the view, and leave the heavy camera bag on the boat.
Park entry is paid per person per day, and a foreign visitor pays IDR 250,000. Tickets are bought online in each visitor's name. The boat fare never includes them.
The itinerary can change with the weather. If Kelor is skipped, the next stop moves up, and the captain tells you the plan.
The kit is the same as for every trek on these routes. Grip, water and sun cover. Keep the camera light, because the best view is the one in front of you.
FAQ
How steep is the Kelor hill?
Moderate. The climb takes 15 to 30 minutes on a steep, dry path, and shoes with grip help. It is short, not long. Go at your own pace and rest at the top, where the view over the bay is the reward.
How far is Kelor from Labuan Bajo?
A sail of 50 to 70 minutes. That is the first leg of the 2 days 1 night and 3 days 2 nights routes after the 10.30 start. Kelor is the nearest of the island stops, which is why it opens the trip.
Is there snorkeling at Kelor?
Not on our routes. Kelor is a trek stop on the plan, and the swims come next at Manjarite. Snorkeling on the 2 days route starts at the next stop, Manjarite. Bring your mask for that stop, and keep the climb for Kelor.
Which routes stop at Kelor?
The 2 days 1 night and 3 days 2 nights routes, both on day 1 as stop 1, and the 4 days 3 nights route, on day 4 as stop 12. The one-day tour does not stop at Kelor. Check the day on your sailing, because the stop moves with the route.
