Thirteen stops, eight pages here

Add up the numbered stops across the four itineraries and you get 13 different places. Eight have a page of their own: Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, Manta Point, Taka Makassar, Kalong, Kelor and Kanawa. The grid below links to each.

Each page tells you which route and which day the stop falls on, what you do there, the kit to carry and the fees to expect.

Which route reaches which stop

Not every route goes everywhere. Here's the map.

  • Padar: one-day tour, 2 days 1 night (day 2), 3 days 2 nights (day 2), 4 days 3 nights (day 3).
  • Pink Beach, written Long Beach on the longer routes: the same four days as Padar.
  • Komodo Island: one-day tour, then day 2 of the 2 days and 3 days routes, and day 2 of the 4 days route.
  • Manta Point and Taka Makassar: day 2 of the 3 days 2 nights and 4 days 3 nights routes only.
  • Kalong sunset: day 1 of the 2 days and 3 days routes, day 3 of the 4 days route.
  • Kelor: day 1 of the 2 days and 3 days routes, day 4 of the 4 days route.
  • Kanawa: day 1 of the 4 days 3 nights route only.

The one-day tour is the shortest list: Padar, Pink Beach and Komodo Island. If a specific place decides your trip, find it here first, then pick the route.

Every itinerary can change with the weather. If a landing is closed, the captain picks the next best stop that day.

Five more stops on the longer routes

Manjarite and Siaba are snorkel stops. Manjarite is the first swim of the 2 days, 3 days and 4 days routes, and Siaba is the last morning swim on the 3 days and 4 days routes.

Rangko Cave and Strawberry Rock are treks, and Burung Island is free time with a snack. All three appear only on the 4 days 3 nights route, which makes it the one for people who want to see the most.

Walks, drifts and sunsets

A quick way to sort the stops by what you do there.

  • Treks: Padar, Komodo Island, Kelor, Rangko Cave, Strawberry Rock. Bring shoes with grip.
  • Snorkel stops: Manjarite, Pink Beach, Taka Makassar, Manta Point, Siaba. Bring a rash guard and reef-safe sunscreen.
  • Sunset stops: Kalong and Kanawa. Bring a charged phone and a layer for the breeze.
  • Free time: Burung Island.

Treks and swims take turns on most days. The longer routes put several swims in a row on day 2. That is the best day for snorkelers and the longest day for everyone else.

Park entry is paid per person per day, and snorkeling is covered by the entry ticket. A foreign visitor pays IDR 250,000 a day. See the fees page for who pays what.

FAQ

Is Batu Bolong a stop on the NK Jaya routes?

No. Batu Bolong isn't on any NK Jaya route, and it isn't a snorkel site. It's dive-only, with currents of 3 to 5 knots at points and down-currents on some tides. Dive boats go there. The NK Jaya itineraries don't.

How far is Kelor from Labuan Bajo?

Kelor is a small hilly islet, a sail of 50 to 70 minutes from Labuan Bajo. A steep, dry path climbs 15 to 30 minutes to a view over the bay. It opens day 1 on the 2 days and 3 days NK Jaya routes, and day 4 on the 4 days route.

Do the routes land on Rinca?

No. None of the itineraries stops at Rinca. Dragons are on the Komodo Island trek, which every route includes. Kalong, the bat islet, lies between Komodo and Rinca but is watched from the boat. If a dragon walk is your goal, the Komodo Island trek is on every route, with a ranger and a set path.

Which stop comes first on each route?

Padar on the one-day tour. Kelor on the 2 days 1 night and 3 days 2 nights routes. Rangko Cave on the 4 days 3 nights route. The first stop follows the welcome drink and the start of sailing at 05.30 for the day tour and 10.30 for the overnight routes.
