Start with the boats and the cabins

The first answers below cover size, cabins and price on both NK Jayas. For the full layout of each boat, the NK Jaya 1 and NK Jaya 2 pages have the bed plans and photos.

Then the water and the season

Snorkel stops, swimming level, mantas and the best months each get their own answer. The best-months page has all twelve months side by side.

Money, dates and the fine print

Deposit, payment methods, cancellation, children and park tickets are answered in plain numbers. The booking terms page has the full wording.

Asking something this page doesn't cover

Message us on WhatsApp and lead with the trip: the boat, the month, how many of you, and if you travel solo or with friends. Add the cabin you're thinking of and any medical or dietary need, and we answer in the same thread. For visas, we point you to the official source.

Cabins

Does every cabin have AC and a private bathroom?

Yes. All 7 cabins on NK Jaya 1 have air conditioning and a private ensuite bathroom. All 6 on NK Jaya 2 have air conditioning and a private bathroom. Every cabin has a queen bed for 1 to 2 guests, and NK Jaya 2's Master Ocean adds an extra bed.

What is the difference between Superior and Full Ocean?

Superior cabins are on the lower deck, with small round portholes in the NK Jaya 1 photos, at IDR 4,350,000 (≈ USD 267) per person. Full Ocean cabins are on the main deck with big side windows, at IDR 5,350,000 (≈ USD 328) per person. Both have a queen bed, air conditioning and a private bathroom.

Can two friends share one cabin?

Yes. Every cabin has one queen bed for 1 to 2 guests, and open-trip prices are per person for two sharing. It's a single queen bed, so make sure you're both fine with that. Neither boat has twin beds.

Is there an extra bed?

Only on NK Jaya 2, in the Master Ocean, which sleeps 2 to 3. The third person pays IDR 3,850,000 (≈ USD 236). We confirm the type of extra bed. NK Jaya 1 has no extra bed on the price list, so each of its 7 cabins takes 1 to 2 guests.

Changes, weather and children

How do I cancel?

Message us on WhatsApp or email. Cancel 60 days or more before departure and you get 50% of what you paid back. At 59 to 30 days it's 25%. Under 30 days, nothing comes back. Travel insurance covers what these tiers don't.

Can I change the date?

Thirty days or more before departure, a date change is free, subject to availability. From 29 down to 14 days the fee is IDR 500,000. With 13 days or fewer to go, a move counts as a cancellation and the matching refund tier applies.

What if the weather stops the trip?

Every itinerary can change with the weather, and the captain picks the route on the day. A changed route costs nothing extra. If the harbor authority stops the sailing, the replacement-boat guarantee applies: equal or higher class on the same dates, or a refund within 14 days.

What if the boat can't sail?

You get a replacement phinisi of equal or higher class on the same dates at no extra cost. Or you take a refund of everything you paid, within 14 days. That covers an engine fault and an order from the harbor or park authority alike.

Can I bring children?

Yes. Children under 3 travel free with a parent or guardian; from age 3 the full price applies. Every cabin takes 1 to 2 guests, NK Jaya 1 has no extra bed on the price list, and NK Jaya 2's Master Ocean takes 2 to 3.

Getting here and packing

How do I get to Labuan Bajo?

Fly into Komodo International Airport, code LBJ, via Bali (DPS), Jakarta (CGK) or Surabaya (SUB). The flight takes about 1 hour 10 minutes from Bali, 1 hour 30 from Surabaya and 2 hours 30 to 3 hours from Jakarta. The airport is 2 to 3 km from the harbor.

Do you arrange hotels and pickup?

Pickup from your hotel, the airport or the harbor is free. For a bigger group, a Toyota HiAce with up to 12 seats is available on request. Every hotel on our list is a partner property: the hotel confirms the rate for your dates, and it's lower than the booking apps because we add no platform fee.

What should I pack?

The official bring list: shoes or sandals for trekking, a backpack, emergency cash, personal medicines, sunblock and sunglasses. We'd add reef-safe sunscreen, a rash guard, a waterproof pouch for your phone and a power bank for the long days on deck.

How much luggage can I bring?

Pack one soft bag. The bring list says backpack, the cabins have a queen bed and little floor space, and a hard suitcase has nowhere to go. Leave the big suitcase at your hotel in Labuan Bajo for the nights you are at sea.

How do I confirm Wi-Fi and fins on board?

Ask us when you book, and we confirm both for your boat and date. Phone signal comes and goes between the islands, with Telkomsel the widest network around Labuan Bajo. Plugs in Indonesia are type C and F, at 230 V, so pack a power bank for the long days on deck.

Open trip basics

What does the open-trip price per person cover?

Your cabin type, a queen bed and a private bathroom, per person, on a 3 days 2 nights trip. The full list of what the open-trip fare covers comes with your booking confirmation. Park tickets are always separate, and a foreign visitor pays IDR 250,000 a day.

How many days is the open trip?

Three days and two nights on both NK Jaya 1 and NK Jaya 2. The private charters come in 1, 2, 3 and 4 day versions, but the open trip is the 3 day one. Your exact stops and times are confirmed when you book, before you pay a deposit.

Which days does it leave?

Each sailing is set per boat, so the days move with the month. Message us the month and the boat you want, or say either, and you get the next departures on WhatsApp. The prices stay the same from date to date.

Where and when do we meet on day one?

For open trips, we confirm the meeting point and time when you book. Charter pickups are at your hotel or the airport, at 10.00 on the overnight routes and 05.00 on the one-day tour. Either way, land in Labuan Bajo the night before.

What happens if the trip doesn't fill?

A sailing we cancel is refunded in full under KEXI terms, or moved to a date or boat you accept. Your booking confirmation names the boat, the date and the terms, so you know where you stand before the 50% deposit.

Park and season

Are park tickets included?

No. The fare never includes park tickets. A foreign visitor pays IDR 250,000 per person per day, and an Indonesian citizen pays IDR 50,000 on weekdays and IDR 75,000 at weekends and holidays. Ranger and pier charges are separate and can change.

How do I buy the park ticket?

Online, through the park's SiOra system, in each visitor's name with passport details. There's no cash at the gate. The name has to match the passenger list, so spell it exactly as your passport does. We'll tell you what we need and by when.

Which month is best for snorkeling?

April, May, September and October are the calmest and clearest. May sees around 20 to 30 m of visibility. December to March is manta season, with rougher seas, and July and August are windy and busy. Pick by what matters most to you.

Will I get seasick?

That depends on the sea and on you. Seas are roughest in January and February, and windy in July and August. Take your tablet 30 to 60 minutes before departure, eat a plain breakfast, sit midship and tell the crew early.

What is the water like (temperature, visibility)?

Warm, at 25 to 29 C through the year. Visibility runs 10 to 15 m from December to February, 15 to 25 m in August, 20 to 25 m in April and 20 to 30 m in May. Manta Point can drop to about 22 C on upwelling days.

Price and payment

What is the cheapest way to sail?

A Superior cabin on the open trip, from IDR 4,350,000 (≈ USD 267) per person, on either boat. The cheapest whole boat is a full day on NK Jaya 2 at IDR 37,000,000 (≈ USD 2,270), against IDR 39,000,000 (≈ USD 2,393) on NK Jaya 1. Park tickets, flights and the hotel are extra either way.

What is not in the price?

Park tickets at IDR 250,000 a day per foreign visitor, flights to Labuan Bajo, hotel nights, travel insurance, tips and personal spending. On a private charter, a guide and photo or video coverage aren't included at any length. We quote them separately when you ask.

How much is the deposit?

50% at booking. The balance is paid 30 days before departure, and anyone booking inside that window pays everything at once. Prices include 11% VAT. The quote names the boat, the dates, the headcount and what's included, and it's part of the contract.

Which payment methods do you take?

Bank transfer in rupiah, or a payment link for cards. Wise, Revolut, PayPal, QRIS and Alipay work too, and WeChat Pay runs through a payment partner. The invoice shows any fee on the link before you pay. Only ever pay the company named on your invoice.

Are there card or PayPal fees?

PayPal carries a 7.2% fee, shown on the payment link before you confirm. Cards go through a payment link, and the invoice shows any fee up front. A bank transfer in rupiah avoids card and PayPal costs altogether.

Snorkeling

Which snorkel stops are on the route?

The 3 days 2 nights route has five: Manjarite, Pink Beach (Long Beach), Taka Makassar, Manta Point and Siaba. The 2 days 1 night route has two, Manjarite and Long Beach. The one-day tour has one, Pink Beach. The 4 days 3 nights route has the same five as the three-day one.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

Pink Beach has reef close to the shore. Manta Point is a drift, with a current that runs anywhere from mild to strong, so expect to float and kick along with it. Both boats carry life jackets. Tell the crew how you swim, and wear one if you're unsure.

Is snorkeling gear provided?

Yes, snorkel gear and a tender are included on every charter, and both boats carry life jackets. A mask that fits your own face is still the best thing you can pack.

When can I see manta rays?

Reef mantas visit their cleaning stations year-round. The biggest gatherings tend to come from December to March. Manta Point is on the 3 days 2 nights and 4 days 3 nights routes. A sighting depends on tide and current, and we never promise one.

Can a first-time snorkeler join?

Yes. Pink Beach is an easy snorkel with reef close to the shore, and both boats carry life jackets. Tell us it's your first time when you book. The 3 days 2 nights route has five snorkel stops, so you build confidence before Manta Point.

Solo and sharing

Can I join alone?

Yes, tell us your date. Every cabin price says Min 2 Pax, which means each cabin is sold for at least two guests. For one traveler we confirm the solo option for your date in writing before any deposit, so you see the price for one before you pay anything.

What does a solo traveler pay?

The per-person fare starts at IDR 4,350,000 (≈ USD 267) for Superior. What one traveler pays on a given date comes in the written reply to your first message, together with the cabin arrangement. Send your dates, the boat and the words I travel alone.

Two boats

Which is bigger, NK Jaya 1 or NK Jaya 2?

NK Jaya 1 is 22 m long with 7 cabins and room for 14 guests overnight. NK Jaya 2 is 21 m long with 6 cabins and room for 12 to 13. So NK Jaya 1 is longer with one more cabin, while NK Jaya 2 carries more water and fuel, 8000 L and 5000 L against 6000 L and 3000 L.

Do both boats cost the same?

On the open trip, yes, for two cabin types. Superior is IDR 4,350,000 (≈ USD 267) per person and Full Ocean is IDR 5,350,000 (≈ USD 328) per person on both boats. NK Jaya 2 adds a Master Ocean at IDR 6,050,000 (≈ USD 371). Whole-boat charters differ: a full day is IDR 39,000,000 (≈ USD 2,393) on NK Jaya 1 and IDR 37,000,000 (≈ USD 2,270) on NK Jaya 2.

Which boat has the Master Ocean cabin?

NK Jaya 2 only. It's on the upper deck with a queen bed plus an extra bed, for 2 to 3 guests, at IDR 6,050,000 (≈ USD 371) per person. A third person adds IDR 3,850,000 (≈ USD 236). NK Jaya 1 has no Master Ocean. Its 7 cabins are 3 Superior and 4 Full Ocean.

Can I choose the boat when I book?

Name the boat in your first message and we'll answer for that boat. If it sails on your date and you can have it, we confirm that before you pay. Superior and Full Ocean cost the same on both boats, so the choice comes down to the cabin mix and the crowd size.

How many guests sail at most on each boat?

NK Jaya 1 takes 14 guests overnight, from 7 cabins of two. NK Jaya 2 takes 12 to 13, from 5 cabins of two plus the Master Ocean for 2 to 3. Those are the overnight limits on both boats. A full-day charter covers 1 to 20 guests at the base price.

Is a guide included?

No. On a private charter, a local guide and photo or video coverage aren't included at any length. We quote them separately, when you ask. Park rangers on the Komodo trek are a separate park charge, not part of the boat fare.

Are meals included?

Yes, on a charter. That means breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of the trip, plus mineral water, snacks, coffee and tea, cooked by a chef and crew. Tell us about any dietary need when you ask for the quote, and we'll answer.

Which charter length should we pick?

The 3 days 2 nights plan is marked Most Popular on both 2026 price lists. It reaches five snorkel stops including Manta Point and has you back around 11.30 on day 3. The one-day tour is a 14-hour sprint, and 4 days 3 nights has 13 stops in total.
